Rescuing Rosie by Jean Ure. Two eleven-year-old friends take riding lessons at their local stables, where they fall for a horse called Rosie. Rosie cannot keep up with the other horses, so when the money runs out she is sold on to a school that pushes her to gallop when she simply can't. The girls decide to buy her back — which means raising more money than either of them has ever seen.

A warm story about animals and friendship from a much-loved British author. Suggested ages 9–12.
