Leeva at Last by Sara Pennypacker, illustrated by Matthew Cordell. Leeva Thornblossom has been raised by parents who care about nothing but money and fame, and has never been allowed out. When she slips away to the library she starts asking the question nobody has answered for her: what are people for? An orphaned badger, a boy in a protective suit and two librarians help her find out — and her small town is never the same.

From the author of Pax, with pen-and-ink pictures by Caldecott medallist Matthew Cordell. Funny and odd and warm. Suggested ages 8–12.
